Great Lake Swimmers

Artist Bio

Led by singer-songwriter Tony Dekker, Great Lake Swimmers are a beloved indie-folk band known for their atmospheric sound, poetic lyrics, and rich acoustic textures. Rooted in Toronto, their music has been shaped by recording in unique, historical spaces like rural churches and grain silos, lending a warm, natural resonance to their sound. Over the past two decades, they’ve built a reputation for lush, homespun folk and emotionally stirring live performances.

Their 2023 release, Uncertain Country, marks the band’s 20th anniversary. It explores themes of change, reflection, and the uncertain times we live in, blending folk, Americana, and ambient textures. Songs like “Moonlight, Stay Above,” featuring Niagara’s Minuscule women’s choir, highlight the band’s evolving and collaborative spirit.

Critically acclaimed and twice Juno-nominated, Great Lake Swimmers have been called “a national treasure” by the CBC. Their music is both introspective and expansive—what Rolling Stone France describes as “Americana which strives to deal with traumas through padded atmospheres.” Whether in the studio or on stage, they continue to create a sonic world that is, as American Songwriter puts it, “nothing less than both cerebral and sublime.”
